We did not just jump into this with no thought we researched into the early morning hours on RVs, trucks, road schooling, camp grounds, working from the road, and on and on…. When choosing our new home we went to the 2015 RV show in Tampa Florida and spent 3 days looking at RVs for 8 hours a day. We ruled out most RV types until we decided to go with a 5th wheel as it made the most sense for our needs. Next we ruled out all the 5th wheels that were not a toy hauler or had a bunk house for the kids. We really liked some of the open floor plans in the other models but did not want to have to fold out sleeper couches every evening and put then away in the mornings. We finally decided on the 5th wheel toy hauler as the back-end gave us the flexibility for a kids room and we believe a better resale value in the future. Out of all the toy haulers we saw at the RV show only 2 had the layout we liked the most, the Voltage and the Weekend Warrior 4250w. After even more consideration we decided on the Weekend Warrior as that model gave us the option to customize certain aspects of the rig as it was being built.

Customization can also have its downside as well, as we learned through this process. One feature we liked about the weekend warrior was the “wood like” flooring it had throughout the rig. The one at the show had the “wood like” flooring throughout, all of the product videos on the website had the “wood like” flooring throughout, the floor plan diagram had the “wood like” flooring throughout, but weeks later when they sent pictures of our rig being built the back end toy hauler section had black diamond plate flooring. We then found out the diamond plate flooring in the back was the standard and we should have asked for the “wood like” flooring throughout. Well as you know it’s hard to ask for something different if it is the only option you have ever seen. Well they couldn’t or wouldn’t switch the back-end flooring at that point so we had to start over on our unit, of course with a little extra costs to ourselves, but now if you look at their floor plan diagrams they now show the black diamond flooring in the back section 🙂
Well the day finally came when we pulled into the RV Factory parking lot to see our new home. We lived in the parking lot for almost a week while we unloaded the Uhaul trailer and tried to find places to put all the remaining stuff we had into the RV. Of course even after downsizing to the max, we still had to make several more trips to Good Will. Eventually we did get everything packed in and we set off for our first campground, but that is an adventure for another time.
